DSH – German Language Exam for University Admission
The DSH is taken directly at German universities. DSH-2 is the standard for most programs. The exam consists of written and oral sections. Pass threshold: 57% in both parts.
TestDaF – Test of German as a Foreign Language
Available worldwide in over 90 countries. TDN 4 in all four sections equals DSH-2. The certificate is valid indefinitely and accepted at all German universities. Also available digitally.
telc German C1 University
Specifically developed for university admission. Recognized by all German universities. Tests academic language competence at C1 level according to the CEFR.
Goethe Certificate C2
The highest language level according to the CEFR. Internationally recognized and available worldwide at Goethe Institutes. Fully replaces the DSH. Ideal for programs with higher requirements.
German Language Diploma (DSD II)
Obtained at German schools abroad. DSD II with C1 in all sections qualifies for university admission without additional language tests. Recognized by the Conference of Ministers of Education.
Assessment Exam (Studienkolleg)
After successful completion of the Studienkolleg. The German section is identical to the DSH in scope and format. Qualifies for subject-specific university admission in Germany.

Studienkolleg – Your Bridge to University
If your school-leaving certificate is not directly recognised, Studienkolleg is your path to higher education access.
What Is the Studienkolleg?
A special educational institution for international students whose school diploma is not directly recognized as a university entrance qualification. Duration: 2 semesters (1 year).
Course Directions
T-Course (Technology/Science), M-Course (Medicine/Biology), W-Course (Business), G-Course (Humanities), S-Course (Languages). Prerequisite: At least B1 German.
Assessment Exam (FSP)
At the end is the state-recognized exam. Upon passing, you receive subject-specific university admission for all of Germany. State colleges are usually tuition-free.
